SAN JOSE, Calif. - Amiah Simmons scored a season-high 16 points, and Rylei Waugh set a new career high with 15 points to lead San José State women’s basketball (7-10, 0-4 MW) in a 77-64 loss against Fresno State (10-6, 1-2 MW) from Provident Credit Union Event Center on Wednesday night.
- Simmons finished with 16 points, five rebounds, one assist, and four steals while going 5-for-15 from the field and 4-for-9 from behind the arc.
- Simmons, recently returning from injury, set new season highs in points, rebounds, steals, and assists.
- Simmons drained three of her four three-point field goals in the second half as the Spartans made a comeback and cut the lead down to as low as four points.
- Waugh finished with a career-high 15 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals while going 4-for-10 from the field.
- Waugh set new career highs in points and minutes.
- Waugh also set a new career high in free throws made as she was perfect from the line, going 6-for-6.
- Amira Brown tallied 13 points to go with eight rebounds, and three assists while going 4-for-10 from the field and 2-for-7 from behind the arc.
- Brown’s eight rebounds and 38 minutes played set new career highs for the redshirt junior transfer.
- Djessira Diawara contributed 10 points with two rebounds, one assist, and one steal while going 4-for-4 from the field.
- Finau Tonga contributed 10 points with six rebounds and one assist while going 4-for-7 from the field.
- This is the 10th game this season the Spartans have had three or more players score in double digits.
- The Spartans outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-25.
- Winning the battle of the boards, resulted in SJSU scoring 26 points in the paint.
