Spartans Sweep Cal Poly in Doubleheader

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ahmiya Noreiga and Sarah Deplitch both had three-hit days while Mia Reynolds earned a win and a save to lead San José State softball (4-5, 0-0 MW) in a 6-0 game one win and a 6-4 game two win against Cal Poly (1-8, 0-0 Big West) on the second day of the Silicon Valley Classic I from Spartan Softball Complex on Saturday.

The Spartans have now won four games in a row, sweeping both of their doubleheaders from Friday and Saturday, while the offense has continued to lead the way with 12 runs and 17 hits on Saturday's doubleheader. SJSU has scored 28 runs over their last four games.    

 Game One

  • Reina Zermeno finished 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double and an RBI single
  • Zermeno’s double is her third of the season 
  • Zermeno’s three RBIs set a new single-game season high for the junior.
  • Noriega went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple and two runs scored.
  • Noriega’s triple is the 11th of her career. 
  • Carly Cummings went 1-for-2 with an RBI single, a walk and a run scored.
  • Jules Ronquillo notched a pinch-hit single going 1-for-1 with a run scored. 
  • Aneesa Almaguer had a walk, an RBI and one run scored. 
  • Reynolds got the start in the circle, throwing six shutout innings with four strikeouts while only giving up two hits. 
  • Reynolds’ shut-out effort is the 14th of her career. 

Game Two  

  • Noriega in game two had a perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3 with a triple, two singles, one RBI, and two runs scored. 
  • Noriega has now hit a triple in three consecutive games and has three triples on the season so far with 12 for her career.
  • This is the first time in Noriega’s career she has tallied a 3-for-3 performance. 
  • Deplitch also had a spotless day at the plate in game two, finishing 3-for-3 with three singles, one RBI, and one run scored. 
  • Deplitch set a new season and career high with three hits. 
  • The freshman is currently hitting .385 through the first six games of her career.  
  • Haley Reeve finished 2-for-4 with two singles, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Reeve currently has nine hits through nine games this season. 
  • Zermeno went 1-for-3 with a single, one RBI, and one run scored. 
  • Aubrie Thomas went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk. 
  • Thomas, last year’s team leader in walks, is once against leading the clubhouse with six base on balls this season.  
  • Shay McDowell finished 1-for-4 with an RBI single. 
  • McDowell currently leads the clubhouse with nine RBIs this season
  • Cummings finished 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored. 
  • Lacie Ham got the start in the circle, while Ava Conti and Reynolds each made relief appearances to combine for the win. 
  • Reynolds shut the door in game two earning the save which is her first of the season and her career. 
  • The Spartans turned three double plays in this game, a season-high for the team.
