SJSU’s Johnson Earns MW Women’s Field Athlete of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Simone Johnson has been named the Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week after a first-place finish and multiple personal bests at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational this past weekend from Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

  • On the second day of competition, Johnson, competing in the Women’s Triple Jump won the event with a new personal lifetime best mark of 13.78m (45’ 2 ½”).
  • Johnson’s mark now puts her at number four in the nation on the NCAA indoor qualifying list for the Women’s Triple Jump.
  • Also, on the first day of competition, Johnson, competing in the Women’s Long Jump, finished in third place while setting a second new personal lifetime best of the weekend with a mark of 6.25m (20’ 6 ¼).
  • Johnson surpassed her former personal best on all five of her attempts during the long jump event. 
  • Johnson also sits within the top 50 on the NCAA indoor qualifying list for long jump. 
  • This is the second time Johnson has won the Mountain West weekly award in her career, the graduate transfer won her first back in 2021 while competing for San Diego State. 
  • Johnson is a USTFCCCA Indoor All-American from the 2023 season and also earned All-Mountain West Indoor Team honors during 2022 and 2023.
