Spartans Get Victory at Home Over Nevada Presented By El Camino Health

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Sydni Summers scored a season-high 21 points and Finau Tonga added 12 points of her own to lead San José State women’s basketball (10-15, 3-9 MW) in a 72-67 win against Nevada (10-15, 5-7 MW) presented by El Camino Health from Provident Credit Union Event Center on Saturday afternoon.

  • The Spartans get their first win against Nevada since a 72-70 overtime road win during the 2019-20 season. 
  • This is SJSU’s first home win against Nevada since the  2017-2018 season.
  • 10 wins on the season is the most since the 2019-20 season. 
  • This is the first double-digit win season of the Coach Phillips era.
  • Summers finished with a season-high 21 points along with four rebounds and two assists, while going 5-for-15 from the field and 3-for-9 from three. 
  • Summers also had a perfect night from the free throw line with a career high 8-for-8 which is also a team high this season. 
  • Tonga finished with 12 points with one assist and led the team for the fourth straight game with six rebounds while going 6-for-9 from the field. 
  • Tonga has now scored in double figures for the third consecutive game.
  • Rylei Waugh added 10 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, and four steals while going 2-for-6 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
  • Waugh’s four steals set a new career high for the sophomore transfer. 
  • Amira Brown tallied nine points to go with two assists and six rebounds, tying her teammate Tonga for the team lead in this game while going 1-for-3 from behind the arc.
  • Amiah Simmons added nine points to go with three rebounds, and one assist while going 4-for-10 from the field and 1-for-2 from three.
  • There have now been 15 games this season where the Spartans have had three or more players score in double digits. 
  • The Spartans outshot the Wolf Pack in every category in this game, 41%-39% from the field, 33%-14% from three, and 90%-82% at the free throw line. 
  • SJSU won the battle of the boards 39-30.
  • The Spartans scored 34 points in the paint for the second consecutive game.
