SAN JOSE, Calif.—Rose Jensen and Jennine Osorio each scored two goals for the Spartans as the No. 18 San José State women’s water polo team fell to No. 4 UCLA, 19-6, Saturday afternoon at the SRAC.
- Jensen scored the first goal of the match with a goal at 4:33 left in the first quarter on a 6-on-5 opportunity.
- The Spartans retook the lead at 2-1 on an Osorio goal at the 2:33 mark in the quarter.
- Jensen then put SJSU ahead at 3-2 just 18 seconds into the second quarter on a pass from Renee Fleming.
- San José State hung tough with the Bruins for much of the first half, with Darcy Spark scoring on a 6-on-5 situation with 2:41 left in the first half to bring SJSU to within one at 5-4.
- The Spartans were outscored, 6-1, in the third quarter, but the team’s goal came from an Isabella Adams shot from the right side and trickled into the goal as the shot clock expired.
- Osorio scored with 1:14 left in the match, as Nynke Willemsen was credited with the assist.
- Grace Smith made six saves for SJSU, and five other Spartans were credited with field blocks.
UP NEXT – The Spartans play their final home match of the season on Friday, March 21, against Harvard beginning at 1 p.m. at the SRAC. Seniors Grace Smith and Renee Fleming will be honored.
