Thomas Goes 4-For-4 to Lead Spartans in 5-4 Loss at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Aubrie Thomas went 4-for-4 with a home run to lead San José State softball (12-14, 1-1 MW) in a 5-4 loss at New Mexico (15-13, 1-1 MW) from Lobo Softball Field Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning thanks to a leadoff solo home run from Thomas, her fourth of the season. However, New Mexico responded in the bottom of the second, pushing across two runs to take an early lead.

San José State evened the score in the fifth and seventh innings, with Reina Zermeno driving in runs on an RBI ground out and a clutch double. The Lobos, however, answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh inning. Thomas continued her impressive performance with a double in the seventh, helping set up a late-game push. Despite Thomas scoring a run to tie it thanks to Zermeno, New Mexico plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.
