Spartans Drop Series Finale Against New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –  Aneesa Almaguer and Carly Cummings each had multi-hit performances to lead San José State softball (12-15, 1-2 MW) in a 6-4 loss against New Mexico (16-13, 2-1 MW) from Lobo Softball Field Sunday afternoon.

San José State started strong, putting up two early runs in the first inning. Reina Zermeno and Ahmiya Noriega each contributed key RBIs, while Aneesa Almaguer delivered two crucial doubles to keep the Spartans in contention.

In the circle, Mia Reynolds pitched five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three. Ava Conti and Lacie Ham also saw action, with Ham closing out the game with a solid final inning.

New Mexico capitalized on a big fifth inning, scoring three runs to take control of the game. Ashley Archuleta led the Lobos with a 4-for-4  performance. 

KEY PERFORMERS: 

  • Almaguer finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
  • Almaguer has four multi-hit games and six doubles this season. 
  • Cummings finished 2-for-4 with two singles.
  • Cummings two hits is a new season high for the sophomore. 
  • Noriega went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored.
  • Zermeno went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a run scored.
