SAN JOSE, Calif. – EJ McGrew struck out five batters and held the Dons scoreless in his four innings on the mound to lead San José State baseball (8-2, 0-0 MW) in a 5-2 victory over San Francisco (5-6, 0-0 WCC) from Excite Ballpark Saturday afternoon in the second game of the three game series.
- Trailing 2-1, the Spartans rallied to score four runs in the seventh inning to put the Spartans on top.
- The Spartans have now won eight out of their last nine games.
- The Spartans’ 8-2 record is their best record to start the season through ten games since 2011 when they also started 8-2.
- McGrew received the win, giving him a 3-0 record on the year. His three wins on the season is at the top of the Mountain West.
- On the season, McGrew has 14 strikeouts across 12 innings pitched with an ERA of zero. McGrew remains the only pitcher in the Mountain West with an ERA of zero.
- David Thomas received the start in the game, allowing only four hits and one earned run in five innings pitched.
- Alex Fernandes went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a sac-fly in the game.
- Fernandes is currently batting .467 on the season.
- Jack Vanoncini also went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in his third start of the season.
- JC Osorio-Agard and Jeriah Lewis each tallied a run and an RBI.
- Jake McCoy also scored a run and Zach Tallerman notched an RBI.
- The Spartans stranded 12 San Francisco runners on base.
