EUGENE, Ore. – Avinash Iyer shot a 138 (-4) to lead the San José State men's golf team in the first two rounds of The Duck Invitational on Monday at the Eugene Country Club, hosted by the University of Oregon.
- The Spartans collectively hold fifth place with a team score of -2 after two rounds.
- Iyer, currently tied for seventh place, recorded 10 birdies across the first two rounds.
- Ivan Barahona had a strong showing, shooting a 68 (-3) in the first round and a 72 (+1) in the second round, finishing with a 140 (-2) to secure a tie for 13th place.
- Keshav "KC" Mungali posted a 74 (+3) in the first round but bounced back with a stellar 68 (-3) in the second round, finishing at 142 (E) and tying for 21st place.
- Zubair Firdaus carded back-to-back rounds of 73 (+2) to end the day at 146 (+4), placing him in a tie for 44th.
- Alaric Mercie De Soultrait recorded a 76 (+5) in the first round and a 77 (+6) in the second.
- Playing as an individual, Jed Dy finished with a 76 (+5) in both rounds.
Meanwhile, at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in Napa, Calif., hosted by Central Michigan, Spartans Awesome Burnett and Marlon Jones competed as individuals.
- Burnett shot a 74 (+2) in the first round and improved with a 71 (-1) in the second, placing him tied for 20th with a 145 (+1).
- Jones recorded a 79 (+7) in the first round but responded with an even-par 72 (E) in the second round, tying for 45th at 151 (+7).
UP NEXT: The Spartans will play in the final round of The Duck Invitational on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and Burnett and Jones will play the final round of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
