Spartans Fall to No. 20 Stanford

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Jeriah Lewis had the Spartans’ lone RBI to lead the San José State baseball team (15-9, 4-2 MW) in a 5-1 loss to No. 20 Stanford (16-6, 5-4 ACC) at Sunken Diamond on Monday afternoon in a lone midweek matchup.

The Spartans’ offense was led by Zach Chamizo, who went 2-for-4 with a triple, while Jared Lewis and Zach Tallerman each added a double. The team totaled six hits and left seven runners on base.

On the mound, Tyson Pereria took the loss in his first start of the season, allowing two earned runs over three innings. Kyle Calzadiaz followed with four innings of relief, giving up three runs while striking out four. Joey Cammarata closed the game with a scoreless eighth inning.

Stanford scored in the first and third innings before adding three more in the seventh. The Spartans scored their lone run in the eighth. 

  • The loss ends the Spartans’ five game winning streak
  • Chamizo has multiple hits in four consecutive games
  • Chamzio has nine multi-hit games on the season which leads the team
  • Jeriah Lewis notched his ninth stolen base of the season which leads the Mountain West.
