Spartans Finish Ninth at The Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. – Avinash Iyer finished even for the tournament to lead the San José State men's golf team in The Duck Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday from the Eugene Country Club, hosted by the University of Oregon.

  • The Spartans finished the tournament at +9, securing a ninth-place team finish.
  • Iyer carded a final-round 75 (+4) to complete his tournament performance.
  • Keshav "KC" Mungali followed closely, shooting a 72 (+1) on Tuesday and finishing at 214 (+1), placing him in a tie for 21st.
  • Ivan Barahona shot a 77 (+6) in the final round to post a 217 (+4) total, tying for 33rd place.
  • Zubair Firdaus recorded a 74 (+3) on Tuesday to finish at 220 (+7), landing in a tie for 50th place.
  • Alaric Mercie De Soultrait rounded out the team scoring with a 74 (+3) final round, totaling 227 (+14).
  • Playing as an individual, Jed Dy posted a 73 (+2) on Tuesday and finished at 225 (+12) for the tournament.
  • Mercie De Soultrait and Dy led the Spartans in birdies on Tuesday with three apiece, while Mungali had the team's lowest final-round score with his 72 (+1).

Two Spartans Compete at Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational

Meanwhile, Spartans Awesome Burnett and Marlon Jones competed as individuals at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in Napa, Calif., hosted by Central Michigan from the Silverado Country Club and Resort. 

  • Both golfers finished with a total score of 226 (+10) over the two-day tournament and in a tie for 45th place.
  • Burnett shot an 81 (+9) in the final round, while Jones recorded a 75 (+3) to conclude the event.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will play in The Goodwin at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., March 27-29.
