Spartans Shutout Fresno State in 2-0 Win

FRESNO, Calif. – Mia Reynolds threw her seventh complete game of the season and second in her last two starts, while Carly Cummings knocked in both runs tying her career-high to lead San José State softball (15-16, 4-3 MW) in a 2-0 shutout win over Fresno State (20-11, 5-2 MW) in the first game of this three-game series from Margie Wright Diamond on Thursday evening.

Reynolds delivered a dominant performance, pitching a complete-game shutout while allowing just six hits, striking out four, and walking only two batters. Her stellar outing earned her ninth win of the season.

The Spartans broke through in the second inning when Ahmiya Noriega was hit by a pitch and later scored on a clutch RBI single by Cummings. The team added an insurance run in the seventh, once again capitalizing on smart baserunning and execution at the plate by Cummings.

San José State's defense remained sharp throughout, turning a key double play and making crucial stops to keep Fresno State off the scoreboard.

Despite Fresno State outhitting the Spartans 6-3, the Bulldogs struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leaving six runners stranded.
