MORAGA, Calif. – Zach Tallerman went 2-for-3 and tallied three runs and a walk to lead San José State baseball (8-4, 0-0 MW) in a 5-4 loss to Saint Mary’s (9-4, 0-0 WCC) from Louis Guisto Field at Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium Tuesday afternoon in a lone midweek matchup.
The game was a back and forth affair as there were five lead changes. Neither team led by more than one run at any point in the game. Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Saint Mary's Diego Castel hit a solo walkoff home run to take the win.
- Tallerman’s three runs scored set a new career-high and it was also his first multi-hit game of the season.
- Zach Chamizo went 2-for-5 in the game and notched two RBIs.
- Chamizo now has 11 RBIs on the year which leads the team.
- Alex Fernandes recorded a hit, two walks and a run.
- Fernandes has reached base in all 12 games this season.
- Fernandes came into the game leading the Mountain West in batting average and on base percentage.
- Jack Vanoncini hit a double in the game, his first extra base hit of the season.
- Luca Staiano started his first game of the year on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs in four innings pitched.
- Timmy Reeve allowed just one hit and no runs in 1.2 innings pitched in relief.
- Dominic Brassesco, Joey Cammarata and Brady Pavlovsky all made appearances on the mound.
