Spartans Shut Out Boston College 4-0

SAN JOSE, Calif.– No. 111 Cheuk Ying Shek, Carla Urchoeguia and Olaya Bances Iglesias each won both their singles and doubles matches to lead the San José State women’s tennis team (9-1, 0-0 MW) in a 4-0 win against Boston College (5-9, 1-3 ACC) on Wednesday evening.  

  • The last time the Spartans beat a current member of the ACC was in 2016 against SMU, marking a tremendous victory for them.
  • This is the best start for the Spartans since the 2020-21 season when they started 14-0.
  • No. 111 Ying Shek and doubles partner Urchoeguia vigilantly battled their opponents and eventually won, 7-6 (7-1)
  • Duru Durgun and Bances Iglesias also went into a tiebreak in their doubles match and won, earning the Spartans the doubles point, 7-6 (7-4)
  • Bances Iglesias quickly defeated her opponent in her singles match, 6-4, 6-3
  • No. 111 Ying Shek won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
  • She is currently on a three-match win streak
  • Urchoeguia clinched the Spartans' final singles point, winning 6-4, 6-3
