Spartans Begin Outdoor Season at Cal Opener

BERKELEY, Calif. – Sky Hagan, Christopher Coats, and Cameron Tarver were among nine Spartans who set new personal bests, leading San José State Track & Field in their outdoor season-opening meet at the Cal Opener on Saturday from Edwards Field.

  • Hagan running in the Women’s 100m Dash claimed first place with a personal best time of 11.78 seconds.
  • Coats competing in the Men's 100m Dash took first place with a personal best time of 10.53.
  • Tarver running in the Men’s 400m, took second place with a personal best time of 48.86. 
  • Lina Schubert competing in the Women’s High Jump took first place with a mark of 1.73m (5' 8”).
  • DeShawn Banks competing in the Men’s High Jump took third place with a mark of 1.98m (6' 6”).
  • Rowan Henige competing in Men's 1500m finished with a personal best time of 4:09.13.
  • Diego Cortes also running in the Men's 1500m finished with a personal best time of 4:11.98.
  • Nakai Johnson in the Women's 400m finished with a personal best time of 1:02.25.
  • Grace Scott, running in the Women’s 800m, set a personal best with a time of 2:20.97.
  • Alexander Walker in the Men’s 800m set a new personal best with a time of 1:55.19.
  • Marcel Bovell competing in Men’s 400m Hurdles finished with a personal best time of 55.58 
  • Trey Ciccio running in the Men's 110m Hurdles finished third with a time of 15.27.
  • Gabriella Hernandez in the Women’s 2000 Steeplechase finished in third with a time of 8:13.94.
  • Savana Dutton in the Women’s 400m Hurdles finished with a time of 1:03.95.
  • Eve Divinity competing in the Women’s 200m  Dash finished third with a time of 24.60.
  • Divinity, Katharina Graman, Camryn Clark, and Jodeci Weems in the Women’s 4x100 Relay took first place with a time of 45.28.
  • Christian Hauge, Jared Jones, Aiden Stalnecker, and Nathaniel Guillory Men’s 4x100 Relay took first place with a time of 40.50.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will continue their outdoor season at the Hornet Invitational hosted by Sacramento State on Saturday, March 22 from Sacramento.
