RENO, Nev. – Jeriah Lewis hit two home runs to lead the San José State baseball team (19-15, 7-6 MW) in a 10-5 victory over Nevada (19-14, 7-6 MW) at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park on Friday night in the first game of a three game series.
In addition to his two home runs, Lewis went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs, and three runs scored. His second long ball, a solo shot in the ninth, put an exclamation point on a dominant night for the Spartans' offense.
San Jose State struck early and often, plating three runs in the second and two more in the third to jump out to a 5–1 lead. Contributions came up and down the lineup: Zach Tallerman drove in two with a double and a sacrifice fly, while Antonio Nanez ripped a two-RBI double in the sixth to break the game open.
After starter Kyle Calzadiaz pitched into the fourth, allowing four runs (three earned), reliever Nolan George came in and silenced the Nevada bats. George tossed 5.2 strong innings, allowing just one unearned run and striking out four to earn the win and improve to 3–2 on the season.
