RENO, Nev.– Freshmen Emma Fantousis and Soledad Fayos Capilla each rallied to win their final two sets in singles, leading San José State (15-4, 6-3 MW) in a hard fought 4-3 loss to No. 70 Nevada (16-3, 7-2 MW) on Sunday afternoon. 

  • The Spartans dropped the doubles point and two early singles matches but battled back with wins on courts 3, 4, and 5 to tie it up, 3-3
  • Carla Urchoeguia won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5
  • Fantousis came back in her singles match, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5
  • Fayos Capilla fought diligently as she won with tiebreaks from the last set, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4)
  • She remains undefeated in singles in both dual and conference play with records of 13-0 and 6-0
  • Doubles partners Cheuk Ying Shek and Urchoeguia and Fayos Capilla and Fantousis fell short in their doubles matches, forfeiting the doubles point
  • Ying Shek was bested by her opponent, 6-4, 6-1
  • Olaya Bances Iglesias fell short, 6-4, 6-1
  • Duru Durgun came up short, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6

UP NEXT: The Spartans will return home and face Fresno State on Thursday, April 17, at noon, which will take place after the senior ceremony for their final regular season match of the season.
