LOS ANGELES—Rose Jensen scored five times to lead the No. 13 San José State women’s water polo team Sunday as the Spartans fell to No. 1 Southern California, 17-8, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
- Jensen got the Spartans on the scoreboard in the first quarter to tie the score at 1-1.
- Nynke Willemsen scored two minutes later to give SJSU a 2-1 lead with 3:49 left in the first.
- Jensen scored her second goal of the quarter with 22 seconds remaining to retake the lead, 3-2, for SJSU.
- The Spartans scored twice in the second quarter, both by Jensen, and trailed just 8-5 at halftime.
- Jensen scored the only Spartan goal in the third period.
- Darcy Spark scored her only goal in the fourth quarter, giving her 68 on the season and moving her into a tie for ninth on the SJSU single season list with Dani Curran (2009).
- Jennine Osorio scored the final Spartan goal with 24 seconds remaining in the match.
- Tatianna Raffin had six saves for San José State.
- The Spartans are now 13-11 on the season and 2-4 in MPSF play.
UP NEXT – SJSU will be the fifth seed at the MPSF Tournament, April 25-27, at Spieker Aquatics Center on the UCLA campus. The team will face the fourth seed at 2:30 p.m. on the 25th. The winner will play in a semifinal match on the 26th at 12:45 p.m. The loser of Friday’s match will play in the fifth-place match on the 27th at 11 a.m.
