SAN JOSE, Calif. – Lacie Ham reached 300 career strikeouts and Ahmiya Noriega had a double to lead San José State softball (18-22, 5-9 MW) in a 2-0 loss against Nevada (32-11, 10-3 MW) from Spartan Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
San José State was held to three hits across seven innings, with infielder Ahmiya Noriega delivering the game’s only extra-base hit for the Spartans—a double to left center in the second inning. Shay McDowell and Carly Cummings also contributed singles.
Nevada broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a two-run triple by Haley Painter. Those would be the only runs of the game as the Spartans’ pitching duo of Mia Reynolds and Ham combined to allow just six hits while striking out five.
Reynolds got the start and was tagged with the loss, allowing two earned runs in 3.1 innings of work while striking out three. Ham came in as relief and tossed 3.2 shutout innings, keeping the Spartans within reach. Defensively, San José State played a clean game with no errors and turned one double play.
Nevada's Hailey McLean earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 innings and giving up one hit while striking out five. Starter Ainsley Berlingeri added 2.2 innings to start the game.
