Spartans Fall Against Nevada in Game Two

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Shay McDowell had two hits, including a double and an RBI single for her 10th multi-hit game of the season to lead San José State softball (18-21, 5-8 MW) in a 3-1 loss against Nevada (31-11, 9-3 MW) from Spartan Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Junior first baseman, McDowell provided the Spartans’ lone RBI, driving in Aubrie Thomas in the bottom of the third inning to briefly put San José State ahead 1-0. McDowell finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base, continuing her consistent presence at the plate.

Nevada responded in the top of the fourth with a two-RBI single from shortstop Haylee Engelbrecht, capitalizing on a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt. The Wolfpack added an insurance run in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Hannah Di Genova.

San José State used three pitchers in the contest. Lacie Ham started the game, allowing two runs over three innings. Taylor Peacock and Mia Reynolds combined for four innings of relief, with Reynolds retiring all seven batters she faced.
