Spartans Rally Late to Take Series Over Nevada

RENO, Nev. – Rocco Caballero went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a solo home run in the fourth and the game-winning double in the ninth, to lead the San José State baseball team (20-15, 8-6 MW) in a 7-5 victory over Nevada (19-15, 7-7 MW) at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park on Saturday afternoon in the second game of a three game series.

The Spartans trailed 5–4 heading into the final frame before staging a dramatic comeback. After drawing a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, Caballero delivered the decisive blow with a line drive down the left field line to clear the bases and put SJSU ahead for good.

JC Osorio-Agard also chipped in with two hits and a run scored, while Zach Tallerman, Alex Fernandes and Antonio Nanez each added RBI singles to keep the offense rolling early.

On the mound, David Thomas battled through 6.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. EJ McGrew (5–1) picked up the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Tyler Albanese closed it out in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
