SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Zubair Firdaus and Ivan Barahona each carded a 72 (+2), while Alaric Mercie De Soultrait, competing as an individual, fired a 71 (+1) to lead the San José State men’s golf team in the opening round of the 78th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist on Monday at the historic Pasatiempo Golf Club. The event is being broadcast nationally on the Golf Channel.
De Soultrait paced all Spartan competitors with his one-over-par performance, placing him in a tie for 34th heading into Tuesday’s second round.
- Firdaus and Barahona are each tied for 43rd at +2, just one shot behind De Soultrait
- Keshav “KC” Mungali followed with a 73 (+3) and is tied for 61st
- Avinash Iyer and Jed Dy each shot a 75 (+5), placing them in a tie for 73rd
- Xuan Luo recorded an 84 (+14)
Among the Spartans competing as individuals:
- Marlon Jones shot 75 (+5), tied for 73rd
- Awesome Burnett finished with a 76 (+6), tied for 80th
- Andreas Diogenous posted an 80 (+10)
