Spartans Fall to San Diego State in Pitcher's Duel

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Luca Staiano tossed five shutout innings with just three hits and one walk allowed to lead the San José State baseball team (20-20, 8-10 MW) in a 2-0 loss to San Diego State (14-26, 10-8 MW) at Excite Ballpark on Saturday afternoon in the final game of a three game series.

After both teams were held scoreless through six innings, the Aztecs broke through late with runs in the seventh and ninth innings to hand SJSU the loss. SJSU managed four hits on the day, coming from Zach Chamizo, Rocco Caballero, Jeriah Lewis and Neil Jansen, but was unable to capitalize with runners on base.

On the mound, Staiano was backed by Nolan George and Tyler Albanese, who combined for four innings of relief. Albanese (2-3) was charged with the loss.
