Shek, Durgun, and Urchoeguia Earn All-Mountain West Honors

LAS VEGAS - San José State women’s tennis standouts Cheuk Ying Shek and Duru Durgun have been named to the All-Mountain West Singles team, while the duo of Shek and Carla Urchoeguia earned a spot on the All-Mountain West Doubles team, the conference announced Tuesday night.

Shek continues to solidify her place among the conference’s elite, earning her second consecutive All-Mountain West Doubles honor. The sophomore also received her first career All-Mountain West Singles recognition, highlighting a stellar season of individual performance.

Durgun joins the singles elite for the first time in her career, showcasing consistent growth and resilience throughout the season.

Urchoeguia, a newcomer to the conference honors list, picks up her first All-Mountain West Doubles selection after a strong campaign alongside Shek.

Cheuk Ying Shek, So., Sai Kung, Hong Kong

  • Flight one singles all season and helped lead the Spartans to a 15-5 record
  • Is 11-5 in dual flight one singles
  • Ranked as high as 97 on ITA women's singles rankings
  • One of two MW players to be ranked this season
  • Ranked the longest out of any MW women's tennis player

Duru Durgun, So., Adana, Turkey

  • 7-6 in dual flight two singles this season
  • Some big singles flight two wins were at Santa Clara (2/28), at Utah State (3/14), and at New Mexico (3/30)
  • The Santa Clara win was a big comeback, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1
  • Durgun clinched the match point for the Spartans at Santa Clara

  • Helped lead the Spartans to a 15-5 record by going 12-6 in dual doubles flight one this season
    4-4 in Mountain West play
  • Only five times out of 20 matches have the Spartans not earned the doubles point
  • Some big wins were flight one against Boston College (7-6) (3/5), at Utah State (6-3) (3/14), Boise State (6-4) (3/16), at Air Force (6-3) (3/28) and against No. 52 San Diego State (6-3) (4/6)
