SAN FRANCISCO – Zach Tallerman went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and a walk to lead the San José State baseball team (20-21, 8-10 MW) in a 3-2 loss to San Francisco (17-24, 5-10 WCC) at Benedetti Diamond on Tuesday afternoon in a lone midweek matchup.
The Spartans jumped on the board early with a solo home run from Zach Chamizo in the top of the first inning. San Francisco answered back with two runs in the bottom half. Tallerman responded in the third with a solo shot of his own to even the score at 2-2. San Francisco scored a run in the sixth to take a 3-2 advantage that would end up being the game winning run.
On the mound, starter Cade Cushing gave the Spartans five solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Reliever Timmy Reeve (0-3) took the loss after allowing the eventual game-winning run in the sixth. Tyson Pereria tossed two scoreless frames to keep the Spartans within striking distance.
