Spartans Add Colby Garland for 2025-26 Season

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Colby Garland, a 6-1 guard transfer from Longwood University, will join the San José State men’s basketball team for the 2025-26 season, as announced by head coach Tim Miles.

  • Left-handed point guard who will join the Spartans entering his junior season
  • As a sophomore at Longwood, Colby averaged 12.1 points and 4.4 assists in 29.3 minutes per game. He started 28 out of Longwood’s 32 games.
  • Helped Longwood win 18 games and scored 24 points to go along with eight assists and five rebounds in the Big South Tournament quarterfinal against Winthrop.
  • As a freshman at Drake University, Colby averaged 5.7 points and 2.2 assists in 19.7 minutes per game. 
  • Named to the All-Missouri Valley Bench Team and helped Drake win 28 games, including the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship to earn a spot in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
  • Garland attended Link Academy after high school in Branson, Mo. During his post-grad season, Garland averaged 18.7 points, 4.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. 
  • During high school, he helped lead Magnolia High School to back-to-back state championships before transferring to Maumelle High School where he averaged 18.3 points per game as a senior.
  • His father, Chris, is a pastor at Damascus Baptist Church in Village, Ark.
