SAN JOSE, Calif. – Senior Mia Reynolds threw her second complete game of the weekend while Reina Zermeno had three hits as one of five Spartans with multi-hit performances to lead San José State softball (22-24, 9-10 MW) in a 10-2 six inning run rule win over Boise State (30–20, 8-11 MW) to earn a sweep on Senior Day as SJSU clinched their spot in the Credit Union 1 2025 Mountain West Softball Tournament from Spartan Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
After trailing 2–1 early, the Spartans erupted in the fourth inning with eight hits and seven runs to seize control of the game. Key contributors included Zermeno (3-for-4, RBI), Ahmiya Noriega (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), and Aubrie Thomas (2-for-2, RBI, 2 walks), as San José State tallied 15 hits overall.
Shay McDowell delivered a clutch two-run double to put the Spartans ahead in the fourth, while Sarah Deplitch added an RBI single to extend the lead. Noriega capped off the inning with a two-run double, putting SJSU firmly in command.
Reynolds anchored the Spartans in the circle, pitching a complete game with seven hits allowed, two earned runs, and four strikeouts across six innings of work.
Offensively, San José State stayed relentless, adding two more runs in the sixth to invoke the mercy rule to walk off with a victory. The Spartans' timely hitting helped them, while taking advantage of Boise State’s lone defensive error.
Boise State struck first with a two-run home run by Makenzie Butt in the opening frame but struggled to generate offense afterward.
The win gives San José State momentum heading into the final weekend of Mountain West Conference play and clinches their spot in the Credit Union 1 2025 Mountain West Softball Tournament.
