Osorio-Agard Homers Twice to Lead Spartans Past Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. – JC Osorio-Agard hit two home runs, including a grand slam to lead the San José State baseball team (18-14, 6-6 MW) in a 12-6 victory over Washington State (12-19, 6-6 MW) at Bailey-Brayton Field on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the three game series.

The Spartans pounded out 16 hits and showcased a powerful offensive performance to close out the weekend series.

The Spartans opened the scoring in dramatic fashion. After the Spartans took a 2-0 lead off a Zach Chamizo RBI single and a WSU error, Osorio-Agard blasted a no-doubter to left center to clear the bases, making it 6-0 in the top of the first.

San Jose State added to its lead in the second inning with another run, courtesy of a Chamizo RBI double. The offense kept applying pressure throughout the game with multi-hit performances from Chamizo (3-for-6, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B), Rocco Caballero (2-for-4, RBI), Jeriah Lewis (2-for-4, 2 2B, 1 BB), and Antonio Nanez (3-for-6, RBI).

On the mound, Win Scott picked up the win for the Spartans, tossing six strong innings and allowing six earned runs while striking out six. Kyle Calzadiaz closed the door over the final three frames, giving up just two hits and no runs while striking out five in the final 2.2 innings.

Washington State mounted several rallies, including two runs in the seventh that cut the deficit to four. But San Jose State answered each threat with insurance runs, including a late RBI single from Caballero in the ninth to seal the win.
