SJSU Named Finalist in School Record Three Categories for 2025 SVG College Sports Media Awards

SAN JOSE, Calif. – For the fourth consecutive year, San José State University Athletics has been named a finalist in the Sports Video Group (SVG) College Sports Media Awards in association with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). In a historic achievement for the program, the Spartans earned finalist honors in three separate categories for the first time in a single season, as announced by SVG on Tuesday.

San José State is one of only 12 finalists in the Collegiate Athletics Championship division for Outstanding Live Game Production, recognized for the men’s basketball team’s thrilling 71-70 victory over New Mexico on Jan. 14, 2025, broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

The Spartans are also one of 10 finalists in the Outstanding Cinematic Recap category for their compelling highlight reel following the football team’s 24-13 road win at Oregon State on Nov. 9, 2024.

Additionally, San José State is among 15 finalists in the Outstanding Social Media Video category for its standout post celebrating wide receiver Nick Nash’s extraordinary season, which saw him earn Biletnikoff Award Finalist honors and complete the rare wide receiver triple crown.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for our creative and production teams,” said San José State Director of Athletics Jeff Konya. “To be recognized not just once, but three times in the same year on a national stage speaks volumes about the talent, innovation, and dedication that our staff brings to Spartan Athletics every day. We’re proud to continue raising the bar for what’s possible in college sports media and putting a stamp on SJSU being a national leader in the space.”

“I’m thrilled by the record number of submissions for the SVG College Sports Media Awards and congratulations to all the Finalists,” says Tom Buffolano, chairman of the SVG College Sports Media Awards in association with NACDA. “It is astounding to me how much quality (and volume) comes out of the college video departments. Technology, innovation, and creativity seem to be the biggest drivers of growth, and students continue to be a much more critical part of the workflow. Live game production has been lifted by data-driven graphics, the addition of pre- and post-game analysis, and the use of non-traditional video and audio capture for multiple screens, social media, and cinematic recaps. This takes planning and skill and results in a much deeper fan engagement. I’m looking forward to a very competitive final round of judging and excited to see the winners announced in Atlanta.”

Winners will be announced at the SVG College Summit in Atlanta on May 28 at 2:00 p.m. (PT).
