FRESNO, Calif. – Alex Fernandes went 5-for-6 with four RBIs, three runs scored and a home run to lead the San José State baseball team (24-25, 11-14 MW) in a 12-10 extra inning victory over Fresno State (24-25, 15-10 MW) at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium on Friday night in the first game of a three game series.
The back-and-forth affair saw both teams trade early punches, with the Spartans scoring runs in each of the first five innings. The Spartans built an 8–4 lead, but Fresno State tied the game with a four-run sixth. The Bulldogs briefly took a lead in the seventh, but the Spartans responded with solo home runs from Jeriah Lewis and pinch-hitter Neil Jansen in the ninth to send the game to extras.
In the 10th, Fernandes sparked the game-winning rally with a leadoff single before Zach Chamizo tripled him home. Drew Giannini added an RBI hit-by-pitch with bases loaded for insurance. Reliever Tyler Albanese (3-3) locked down the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

- Chamizo extended his hitstreak to 11 games and on base streak to 17 games
- Giannini tallied a career-high three hits
