SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State men’s soccer head coach Simon Tobin will return for one final season before retiring, the program announced Wednesday.
“We are entering a new era of college athletics, and I feel my experience can help during this transition,” Tobin said. “I intend to spend my final season working with our incredible alumni and booster groups to ensure a successful, sustainable future for SJSU men’s soccer and a winning 2025 campaign.”
A native of London, England, Tobin has served as a collegiate men’s soccer head coach since 1987, starting his career at CSU Bakersfield before taking over at San José State in 2014. Over his 37-year career, Tobin has compiled an impressive 382-277-85 record, including a 75-97-33 mark with the Spartans.
Since 2017, Tobin has guided SJSU to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament every season, making championship game appearances in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024. He was named WAC Coach of the Year in 2021.
Throughout his career, Tobin has developed numerous professional players, including Gyasi Zardes, Keith Costigan and Beau Leroux.
The 2025 Spartans return several key contributors from last year’s WAC Championship finalist squad, including reigning WAC Offensive Player of the Year Angel Iniguez. San José State opens the season on August 21 against Cal Poly at 7:00 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
