TYLER, Texas – San José State wide receiver Leland Smith has been named to the 2025 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday.
Smith, a native of Houston, Texas, is entering his first season with the Spartans after transferring from Purdue. In 12 games with the Boilermakers last season, he recorded six receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
Smith becomes the first Spartan to earn a spot on the prestigious watch list since quarterback Nick Starkel in 2020 and 2021.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors the top offensive player in Division I football from Texas who also exhibits the integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity exemplified by the award’s namesake, Hall of Famer Earl Campbell.
