SAN JOSE, Calif. - Edgar Guerra has been named WAC Goalkeeper of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. This is Guerra’s first player of the week award since joining Spartans prior to the 2024 season.
Guerra was vital in helping the Spartans secure their first 2-0 start to the season since 2010. In the Spartans’ win over Cal Poly last Thursday, Guerra earned his first clean sheet of the season, recording five saves, many of which were spectacular diving saves to keep the Mustangs off the board. In SJSU’s victory over Saint Mary’s last Sunday, Guerra added another three saves, including a key stop in the final minute of play that set up the winning Spartan goal in the final 10 seconds of a 2-1 team victory.
The Spartans look to continue their winning streak against CSU Bakersfield on Friday at 7 p.m. in Bakersfield, Calif. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
