SAN JOSE, Calif.—Nine Spartans recorded at least one kill on Friday, led by Lolo Fonua with eight, as the San José State volleyball team opened the 2025 season at Spartan Gym, falling 3-1 to UC Santa Barbara in a non-conference match.
- Morgan Graves added seven kills, while four others had four kills – Ava Hewitt-Smith, Learden Lee, Alyssa Bjork and Mariana Buchanan.
- In all, 12 players made her debut in a Spartan uniform, and 16 players saw action in the match.
- Fatimah Hall started at setter and recorded 22 assists, six digs and three service aces.
- Four Spartans had two blocks on Friday – Hall, Hewitt, Lee and Bjork.
- Nazare Judd recorded six digs, while Sariah Johnson and Fonua had five digs each.
- The Spartans won the first set, 25-23, on a Fonua kill.
UP NEXT – The Spartans and Gauchos play Saturday at 2 p.m., inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets. Admission is free. The match will also be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
