PULLMAN, Wash. - Avinash Iyer fired a 135 (-8) to pace the San José State men’s golf team through the first two rounds of the Palouse Collegiate on Tuesday at Palouse Ridge Golf Club, hosted by Washington State, to open the 2025-26 season.
- The Spartans combined for an 18-under-par (550) team score, placing them in a tie for fourth after day one.
- Iyer opened with a bogey-free tying career-best 65 (-6), highlighted by six birdies, and followed it with a 70 (-1) that included three birdies. He sits in a tie for sixth overall heading into the final round.
- Teammate Jed Dy carded rounds of 68 (-3) and 69 (-2), totaling 137 (-5) to finish the day tied for 10th.
- Ivan Barahona posted rounds of 69 (-2) and 70 (-1) with a total of 139 (-3), tying for 24th. Joining him in that spot was Keshav “KC” Mungali, who matched Barahona with rounds of 69 (-2) and 70 (-1) for a 139 (-3).
- Newcomer Ben Friedman turned in steady rounds of 71 (E) and 71 (E) for a 142 (E), tying for 38th place.
- Playing as individuals, Christian Maggard recorded a 69 (-2) in round one that featured an eagle and four birdies. He added a 72 (+1) in round two to finish at 141 (-1), tied for 33rd. Itai Cohen notched two career-best eagles in his second round, shooting 73 (+2) and 72 (+1) for a 145 (+3).
