SAN JOSE, Calif. - Arnold Matshazi and Daniel Fregoso Bautista each tallied two shots on net to lead the San José State men’s soccer team (4-1-1, 0-0-0 WAC) in a 0-0 draw against CSUN (2-0-3, 0-0-0 Big West) Thursday night at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
The Spartans dictated much of the play, outshooting the Matadors 15-8, but were unable to find the back of the net despite several close chances. Defensively, San José State stayed organized throughout the 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Edgar Guerra recorded two saves to post his fourth clean sheet of the season. The backline, anchored by Dane Pendleton, Ruben Flores-Thomas, Niklas Dossmann, and Javier Lopez, limited CSUN to just two shots on target.
- The Spartans have now recorded four shutouts on the season
- This is the first time since 2000 that the Spartans have recorded four shutouts through their first six matches to begin a season
- Angel Iniguez led the team with three total shots in the game
UP NEXT: The Spartans will host No. 8 Stanford on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex. The match can be watched on WAC International.
