SAN FRANCISCO – Soledad Fayos Capilla and Duru Durgun competed in both singles and doubles action as the San José State women’s tennis team opened its fall season on Thursday evening at the Battle in the Bay Classic, marking the Spartans’ first appearance at the tournament since 2017.
- In doubles play, Fayos Capilla paired with Emma Fantousis, falling 8-5 to Arizona’s Haylee Conway and Zoya Chulak.
- Meanwhile, Durgun teamed with Tara Mihaljevic, but the duo dropped their match 8-2 against Cal Poly’s Kennedy Buntrock and Jessica MacCallum.
- In singles action, Durgun battled against UCSB’s Emma Tutoveanu but came up short in two close sets, 6-4, 6-4.
- Fayos Capilla faced USC’s Jana Hossam Salah, also falling by a narrow 6-4, 6-4 margin.
