SAN FRANCISCO — Duru Durgun led San José State women’s tennis with a straight-set singles win in day two of the Battle in the Bay Classic on Friday at the California Tennis Club.
Durgun secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Arizona’s Zoya Chulak, continuing her strong form in singles play.
Sophomore Soledad Fayos Capilla battled back for a dramatic comeback against Cal Poly’s Kennedy Buntrock, claiming a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (11-9) win.
In doubles action, Durgun and Tara Mihaljevic fell 6-0 in their matchup, while the duo of Fayos Capilla and Emma Fantousis will play Saturday.
UP NEXT: The Spartans continue competition of the Battle in the Bay Classic on Saturday, in day three singles consolation matches with Durgun and Fayos Capilla, along with doubles consolation play featuring Fantousis and Fayos Capilla.
