SAN JOSE, Calif. - Arnold Matshazi scored twice to lead the San José State men’s Soccer team (4-1-2, 0-0-0 WAC) in a 2-2 draw against No. 3 Stanford (6-1-1, 1-1-0 ACC) on Wednesday night at the Spartan Soccer Complex, presented by Habana Cuba. The match was played in front of a Spartan Soccer Complex record 2,489 fans.
Matshazi powered the Spartans’ attack with a brace, scoring in both halves to bring his season total to five goals. His first came in the 24th minute, finishing a service from Ruben Flores-Thomas to level the match at 1-1.

Matshazi struck again in the 54th minute, slotting home after a well-timed pass from Cameron Cook to give SJSU a 2-1 advantage. Stanford struck in the third minute and again in the 90th minute to equalize.

- The previous Spartan Soccer Complex attendance record was 1,559 fans on Sept. 1, 2023, also against Stanford
- With the draw, the Spartans earned their first result over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 10 Grand Canyon 2-1 in 2021
- Matshazi is the first Spartan to score multiple goals in a game since Angel Iniguez scored twice against San Diego State in last season’s WAC Tournament semifinals
- Edgar Guerra recorded three saves, putting him up to 17 on the season
- Flores-Thomas’ assist was his second of the season while Cook’s assist marked his first of the year
