SJSU's Mungali Leads Spartans to Victory at Jim DeLapa Collegiate

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Keshav “KC” Mungali fired a final-round 65 (-5) to finish second overall with a 197 (-13), sparking the San José State men’s golf team to a team victory at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate, hosted by Central Michigan at Point O’Woods Golf and Country Club.

The win marks the Spartans’ first tournament title since the Alister MacKenzie Invitational last season (Oct. 7-8, 2024). The Spartans bested teams like Michigan, Saint Mary's, Cincinnati, and Grand Canyon.

San José State closed the event at -15 as a team, notching 22 birdies on Monday and finishing five strokes clear of the field.

Mungali tied his career-best finish while catching fire down the stretch, birdieing five of his final six holes to secure second place overall.

Other Spartan highlights included:

  • Ivan Barahona: Shot an even-par 70 on Monday, finishing tied for a season-best fourth with a 204 (-6).
  • Avinash Iyer: Carded a 66 (-4) in the final round to finish tied for 19th at 210 (E).
  • Jed Dy: Posted a 68 (-2) on Monday, tying for 34th with a 214 (+4).
  • Ben Friedman: Closed with a 77 (+7), finishing at 226 (+16).
  • Itai Cohen (competing individually): Shot 75 (+5) to finish at 225 (+15).

UP NEXT: The Spartans head to the Ka‘anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Lahaina, Hawai‘i, from Oct. 27-29.
