AUGUSTA, Ga. - San José State redshirt junior punter Trent Carrizosa has been named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List, the Augusta Sports Council announced this week. The Ray Guy Award honors the nation’s top collegiate punter each season.
Carrizosa, a San Jose native, opened the year with a standout performance in the Spartans’ season-opener against Central Michigan. He recorded five punts for 250 yards, including a career-long 68-yard punt and one downed inside the 20-yard line.
Trent’s older brother, Michael Carrizosa, was San José State’s punter from 2014–17 and remains the Spartans’ career leader in punting average (44.0 yards) and total punting yards (9,907). Michael was the first Spartan to participate in the annual Walter Camp Football All-America weekend, a Ray Guy Award finalist in 2015, and went on to opportunities with the Cleveland Browns and the USFL.
The Ray Guy Award, named for the legendary Pro Football Hall of Famer, will narrow its watch list to 10 semifinalists in November before announcing three finalists in December. The winner will be unveiled during ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.
