HONOLULU—Naima Foster, one of eight Spartans to record kills in Friday night’s match, led San José State with a season-best 10 kills as SJSU reverse swept St. John’s, 3-2 (22-25, 11-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-4) in the team’s final match at the OUTRIGGER Invitational.
- Foster also recorded nine digs and a season-best five blocks (1-4).
- Learden Lee recorded a season-best eight block assists to lead the Spartans. She added four kills, two digs and an ace.
- Morgan Graves had eight kills, four digs and two block assists in the win.
- Sariah Johnson contributed eight kills and two blocks, while Lolo Fonua had seven kills and a block
- Ava Hewitt-Smith added six kills and a career-best five blocks (1-4).
- Three Spartans anchored the defense as each recorded double-digit digs. Randilyn Reeves came off the bench to have a career-high 17 digs, followed by Nazare Judd with 14 digs and Talita dos Santos Goncalves with 12.
- Fatimah Hall had a season-high 36 assists to go with a team-high three aces, three blocks, two digs and a kill.
- San José State recorded season highs of 14 blocks and nine service aces.
- After dropping the first two sets to the Red Storm, the Spartans battled back to win the final three sets. The team trailed 15-11 in set three before slowly chipping away at the deficit, taking the lead for good at 21-20 on a St. John’s hitting error.
- The fourth and fifth sets were dominated by SJSU as the team took the lead from the first serve and did not trail in either set. Hall and Lee combined for the final block of the night to give San José State the victory.
- The Spartans finish the OUTRIGGER Invitational with a 2-1 record.
UP NEXT – The Spartans return to California for eight matches in San Luis Obispo and the Bay Area for the rest of September. The team plays at the Mustang Invitational next weekend. The Spartans face California on Saturday, the 13th, at 1 p.m., and host Cal Poly next Sunday, the 14th, at 3 p.m.
