Spartans Strike Early, Shut Out Sacramento State in 2–0 Victory

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Cameron Cook and Daniel Fregoso Bautista both scored their first goals of the season to lead the San José State men’s soccer team (4-1-0, 0-0-0 WAC) in a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State (0-5-1, 0-0-0 Big West) Sunday afternoon from Hornet Field. 

The Spartans wasted no time asserting themselves, scoring both goals within the opening 10 minutes of play. Cook opened the scoring in the 6th minute, finishing a setup from Angel Iniguez to put the Spartans in front. Just four minutes later, Fregoso Bautista doubled the lead, scoring from well outside the box.

Defensively, the Spartans were organized and disciplined, limiting Sacramento State to just five total shots, none of which were on target. Goalkeeper Edgar Guerra earned the win (4-1-0), recording his third clean sheet of the season.
