THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Ivan Barahona shot a 66 (-5) and finished the day tied for first to lead San José State on the first day of the Southwestern Intercollegiate hosted by Pepperdine University from the Sherwood Country Club.
- Barahona had five birdies and zero bogeys in the first round
- Barahona shot a 31 (-4) on the front nine
- The Spartans as a team shot a 286 (+2) and finished in fifth place ahead of No. 5 Texas
- Zubair Firdaus shot a 70 (-1) to be in 10th place
- Avinash Iyer recorded a 74 (+3) and finished the first round in 35th place
- Keshav "KC" Mungali started his first hole of the tournament with an eagle
- Mungali finished the first round shooting a 76 (+5)
