Spartans Drop Match to Utah Valley

OREM, Utah - Arnold Matshazi scored his eighth goal of the season to lead the San José State men's soccer team (8-3-2, 1-2-0 WAC) in a 2-1 loss to Utah Valley (8-1-1, 2-1-0 WAC) on Saturday afternoon from UCCU Stadium.

Matshazi struck first in the 25th minute off an assist from Gilberto Rivera for the Spartans. The Wolverines went on to score two goals in the first half, and the Spartans could not respond. Both teams received red cards midway through the game. The game was also played in torrential rain.

  • SJSU outshot Utah Valley 13-8
  • Matshazi took four shots 
  • Rivera collected his fifth assist of the season and the eighth of his career
  • Ronin Axelson made his first appearance in goal of the season and recorded one save
  • Edgar Guerra made two saves
