SAN JOSE, Calif. - Javier Lopez has been named WAC Defender of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. This marks Lopez's first career player of the week award and the sixth player of the week award of the season, extending a program record.

Lopez scored his first career goal in the Spartans' 1-1 draw against #RV Grand Canyon on the road.  The goal came in the 71st minute when Gilberto Rivera delivered a pinpoint cross off a free kick to Lopez, who headed it into the back of the net to tie the game. Lopez, who plays centerback, also was vital in limiting GCU to only one goal and limiting Junior Diouf, one of the top goal scorers in the nation, to just one shot and without a shot on goal. GCU came into the match 7-1-0 when playing at home.

The Spartans will return to action this Thursday against San Diego State at 4:30 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
