Spartans Earn Key Road Win Over UNLV

LAS VEGAS - Daniel Fregoso Bautista, Angel Iniguez and Arnold Matshazi all found the back of the net to lead the San José State men’s soccer team (9-3-4, 2-2-2 WAC) in a 3-1 victory against UNLV (4-5-6, 1-1-4 WAC) Sunday night from Peter Johann Memorial Field. 

Fregoso Bautista opened the scoring in the 11th minute, capitalizing on rebound off a saved shot for his third goal of the season. UNLV equalized in the 73rd minute off a corner, tying the match at 1–1. The Spartans responded quickly as in the 77th minute, Iniguez reclaimed the lead after he buried a left footed shot into the back of the net. Matshazi sealed the result in the 88th minute, capitalizing off a UNLV turnover, giving SJSU a two goal advantage.

Defensively, Edgar Guerra made one save while anchoring the back line to his ninth win of the season (9–3–2). The Spartans finished with an 11–6 edge in total shots and a 6–3 advantage in corner kicks.
