LAHAINA, Hawai‘i - Avinash Iyer carded a 6-under 65 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for fifth place and lead the San José State men’s golf team at the Ka‘anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER, held at the Royal Ka‘anapali Golf Course.
- The Spartans finished sixth in the 19-team field with a team total of 33-under (819), finishing ahead of No. 41-ranked Kansas.
- Iyer recorded a team-high eight birdies in the final round to close the tournament at 199 (-14), posting three consecutive rounds under par.
- His fifth-place finish matches his season best, while his 65 ties his second-lowest round of the season and marks the best round of the tournament for the Spartans.
- Ivan Barahona turned in a 5-under 66 on Wednesday, his second straight round of 66, to finish at 202 (-11) and in 13th place.
- Christian Maggard shot a 1-under 70 to finish at 207 (-6) and in a tie for 34th place.
- Keshav “KC” Mungali carded a 75 (+4) to finish at 215 (+2) and tied for 77th.
- Jed Dy tied for 83rd after a final-round 73 (+1) for a three-round total of 216 (+3).
- Competing as individuals, Ben Friedman made four birdies en route to a 70 (-1) on Wednesday, finishing at 209 (-4) and tied for 45th. Itai Cohen posted a 76 (+5) in the final round.
