San José State’s Walker Eget Named a Manning Award Star of the Week

NEW ORLEANS - San José State quarterback Walker Eget has been recognized as one of eight quarterbacks nationwide named a Manning Award Star of the Week, the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the Manning Award committee announced Monday.

Eget delivered a standout performance in the Spartans’ 35-28 Mountain West victory over New Mexico, completing 26-of-30 passes for 334 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions (story). The senior signal-caller began the game on fire, connecting on his first 13 passes and delivering a career-long 70-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to spark the San José State offense.

Fans can vote on the Manning Award’s official social media accounts (@ManningAward) and website to determine this week’s Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Voting closes Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. (PT).

The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, was created in 2004 to honor the legendary Manning family—Archie, Peyton, and Eli—and is the only quarterback award that takes bowl performances into account. Since its inception, the award has celebrated the nation’s elite quarterbacks for both their on-field excellence and leadership.

Eget’s recognition marks another milestone for San José State football as the program continues to produce standout performances on the national stage.
