SAN JOSE, Calif. - Edgar Guerra has been named WAC Goalkeeper of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday. This marks Guerra's second player of the week award and a program record fifth player of the week award for the Spartans this season.
Guerra was a brick wall in the Spartans' 3-1 win over #RV Cal Baptist in the WAC conference opener. Guerra finished the game with six saves, a season-high. Five of his saves came in the first half, preventing Cal Baptist from taking an early advantage. The lone Cal Baptist goal was in the 89th minute of the match, a consolation goal. Cal Baptist has not been shutout in any game this season. Guerra, who has started in net every game this season, is posting a career best save percentage of .789 so far this year.
At 8-1-2 this season, the Spartans are off to their best start to a season since 2000. They also received five votes in the latest coaches poll. The Spartans will next head to Saint George, Utah to compete against Utah Tech on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. The match can be watched on ESPN+
